This is the time of year where we reflect and consider what we can make better in our lives. “2011 sucked” is a common sentiment, and of course in that light we want to do everything possible to make 2012 better.
So what’s the best way to do that?
A lot of people take a negative tact, where they look for all the brokenness in their lives and try to answer the question, “How can I patch this up?” New Year’s resolutions abound, from losing weight to finding that one true love.
But it’s not the only tact.
For 2012, why not try something different? Rather than look for all the negative (I’m fat, I’m lonely) look for all the potential in your life. Think about all the missed opportunities of 2011 and don’t let another day pass. Make 2012 the day you make a difference in your life (and by consequence, in the world).
This isn’t just about setting the same old goals you know you’ll miss. This is about radical change. Hate your job? Then start plotting your exit. Have an incredible talent but aren’t sharing it with the world? Then share it on New Year’s Day! There’s never been a better time to be social. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, eBay. And others. Regretting you didn’t finish college? Then take a class.
In short: don’t sell yourself short any more. 2011 is in our rearview mirror. It cannot hurt you any more. 2012 is ahead, full of possibilities. The canvas is blank.
What will you make of 2012?
For me, I just want to make sure I enjoy every day. Because life is too short.
Happy New Year!
